If you weren't able to join us at

'National Night Out 2010'

here's what you

missed!

The Fire Prevention Bureau / Fire Department - in conjunction with the Tinley Park Police’s “National Night Out 2010” - hosted a ‘side-by-side’ demonstration Tuesday, August 3.

In less than two minutes, effects of rapid heat and smoke development were evident in the room that was ignited. In the opposite room, Quick Response Fire Sprinklers effectively limited and controlled the fire, which ensures a more successful escape!

We start with two rooms that are similarly furnished, sized

and ready for the demonstration!

A crowd gathers as the demonstration starts...

Room #1 - with no fire protection - is ignited.

Less than 2 minutes after ignition; flames, smoke and

thick toxic gasses engulf the room.

Public Education Officer Bill Proper explains the devastating effects

of fire as Room #2 - a sprinkler protected room - is prepared for burning.

Room #2 - outfitted with sprinklers - is ignited.

In less than a minute, the sprinklers successfully control the fire.

Room #1 - considerable smoke and flame damage.

Room #2 - minimal fire spread.
